Florian Designs — Belgian craft, US specification
Our story

Belgian craft.
US specification.

We source from Belgium because Belgium builds things with an exactness that shows — in the weight of a switch, the line of a ceiling fixture, the joint of a teak chair. We bring that standard to the US trade market, fully specified and fully supported.

Florian Designs is a California-based trade distributor. We work with architects, interior designers, builders, AV integrators, and hospitality teams who need products that hold up — aesthetically and structurally — over the life of a project.

Florian flo · ri · a · nus
The name

Florian comes from the Latin florere — to flower, to flourish, to come into full form. The root is flos, floris: flower. It traveled through Central Europe and became a name carried for centuries in Belgium, France, and Austria — the region our products come from.

The Caffè Florian in Venice, opened in 1720 and still running, was where artists, architects, and makers of things gathered — the original meeting place of European craft and culture. There is something in that history that felt right for what we are building.

We did not choose the name for the etymology.
We chose it because it sounded like something that takes its time.

handcrafted precision
Why Belgium

Precision as a starting point,
not a finish line.

Belgium has a manufacturing tradition that does not announce itself. It shows up in the tolerances of a KNX chip soldered directly onto a keypad, in the chemical aging of a Bronze Antique finish, in the geometry of a lighting fixture that a Belgian electrician-turned-designer has been refining for nearly four decades.

The manufacturers we work with are not contract suppliers. They are the people who made the thing — the same teams, the same facilities, the same standards that built their reputations in Europe before we brought their work here.

What guides us
01

Made correctly.

Every product in the Florian collection was chosen because it is the right thing, made the right way. Not because it fills a category gap or fits a price point.

02

Specified, not adapted.

Products that require workarounds to function cleanly in the US market do not belong in the collection. If we cannot specify it clearly and support it fully, we do not carry it.

03

Belgian sourcing, US execution.

The craft comes from Belgium. The specification support, compliance knowledge, lead-time planning, and 48-hour quoting are ours. We own that half completely.

What we curate

One standard across every category.

Lighting
Architectural lighting designed and made in Belgium.
A different approach to the designed room

Most ceiling specifications fill the available surface and call it done. Most switch specifications stop at the switch. The products we carry start from a different question — where does the light actually need to go, and what should every surface in the room feel like when it is resolved. Lithoss and Sera are the answers to that question: a finish library that holds across every plate on every wall, and light placed with intention rather than distributed for coverage.

Architectural switching

Lithoss switches, dimmers, and outlets

Handcrafted in Belgium. One coordinated finish library, 18 standard finishes plus custom RAL. Works with Crestron, Control4, Lutron HomeWorks, Savant, Vantage, and RTI on 24V dry contact, with KNX on board and Casambi wireless. Exclusively in the US through Florian Designs.

How we work

The specification layer between Belgium and your project.

We carry the US-specific knowledge that makes Belgian and European products straightforward to specify here: compliance requirements, lead-time planning around European factory calendars and summer closures, finish coordination across product categories, and import logistics from multiple manufacturers.

When a project question comes in, we answer it in Pacific Time, within the same business day. When a project is ready to configure, we return a formal quote within 48 hours. When a partner needs to put the product in front of a client, we ship a demo box.

The relationship runs the length of the project. We stay from first inquiry through finish selection, sample coordination, approval, import, and delivery confirmation. The specification is not finished when the order is placed, and neither are we.
